Asma Niang, judo champion was attending the Wim Hof workshop at Olodge with Léandre Iceboy and Ferdinand Thor. We had the chance to interview her.
Did you feel different emotions while breathing and icebathing?
Breathing is like looking for something. We discover certain things. We are in emotion right away. There are things that come out. For me, I welcomed these emotions and I accepted them.
For the cold, it is like an anchor. There is all the breathing work that we put in place that helped me. I was completely relaxed. I didn't feel the cold that much.
The support is extraordinary. You don't feel alone. And that was good for me too.
You are among the only people to have immersed your head in the ice bath, how did you feel?
It doesn’t feel real. I wanted to put my head in and I don't even know how long I stayed in the icebath. It's a bit of a blur. I can't explain that moment. And in fact, it's a magical moment. Like skydiving. You don't think about what happened, what will happen tomorrow.
What do you think the Wim Hof method will bring to sports practice?
I would say even more. The method will be useful in my everyday life. It's something I was already convinced of. Meditation. The cold is something that speaks to me. Because I practice judo and sometimes breathing is difficult. I think it will help me, even with cardio.
You can be overwhelmed by emotions, and practicing the Wim Hof method before a competition is very important. I invite all high level athletes to use the method.
Do you recommend Léandre Ice Boy and Ferdinand Thor ?
It is essential! Because it's a method that I believe in. It's scientifically proven, it's spiritually proven. It's proven by me because it's an experiment and I've already tried many things. And in relation to my sports practice, there are many things to stabilize and to refocus on oneself.
